Verse and question study

Does the woman in the basket demean women?

No. This is a personification explicitly identified with wickedness, just as other biblical figures personify wisdom or cities. The two women who remove the basket also prevent a simple equation between femaleness and evil.

Should every strange detail be assigned an end-times identification?

No. The interpreting speech provides the controlling themes: judgment against dishonesty and removal of wickedness. Further proposals should remain subordinate and clearly identified as proposals.

03

Historical and literary context

The preceding visions promise cleansing and Spirit-enabled rebuilding. Chapter 5 adds judgment. The returned exiles must not imagine that renewed institutions make theft, falsehood, and corruption harmless. Two symbolic scenes portray covenant accountability and the removal of evil.

04

Apologetic note

Visionary imagery should be evaluated according to its genre. A flying document and winged figures are not offered as an ordinary travel report. The question is what the symbolic scene reveals about covenant justice, not whether such objects could operate by familiar physical mechanisms.
