The precise difficulties

Verse and question study

Does this psalm promise wealth to every believer?

No. Wisdom describes the ordinary fruit of faithful, generous life under God, while the Psalter also records righteous poverty and persecution. “Wealth” cannot be isolated from generosity, justice, and enduring righteousness.

Does not fearing bad news mean emotional numbness?

It means reports do not dethrone trust. Courage can include grief, prudent action, and bodily fear while the heart's ultimate confidence stays fixed.

Can human righteousness endure forever?

The person's grace-shaped conduct has lasting fruit and remembrance because it participates in God's enduring righteousness. It is not autonomous merit or equality with God.

03

Historical and literary context

Psalm 112 is an anonymous Hallelujah wisdom psalm and an alphabetic companion to Psalm 111. Vocabulary describing God in Psalm 111 appears in the human life of Psalm 112, showing that reverence forms likeness without erasing the Creator-creature distinction. Paul quotes verse 9 in 2 Corinthians 9:9 regarding generosity. English Psalm 112 is Psalm 111 in Greek/Latin numbering.

04

Apologetic note

Psalm 112 defines success morally rather than by accumulation. The blessed person gives wealth away, lends, practices justice, and remains steady under threat. This undercuts prosperity readings that separate blessing from responsibility to the poor.
