Verse and question study
Is Elihu God’s inspired solution to the debate?
He contributes important insights and prepares the narrative transition, but the book never explicitly certifies every claim he makes. His speeches should be evaluated in context and distinguished from God’s own address.
Does not being rebuked in chapter 42 prove complete approval?
It makes his narrative role different from the three friends, but an omission cannot establish blanket endorsement of every sentence. Interpreters differ about the significance of the silence.
03
Historical and literary context
Elihu’s speeches occupy chapters 32–37 between Job’s final oath and God’s appearance. He was not named among the arriving friends, and the narrative does not explain when he joined the listeners. He is angry with Job for justifying himself rather than God and with the three friends for condemning Job without a convincing answer. God’s final rebuke names the three friends but not Elihu; that silence does not settle every assessment of his speeches.

Apologetic note
The chapter values a younger person’s contribution without equating conviction with correctness. Neither seniority nor intensity supplies a substitute for truthful reasoning. The same God who gives understanding also holds speakers responsible for partiality and misrepresentation.
